Around May last year, I picked up a book by Kiera Cass called The Selection. I've read the first two books in the series (The Selection and The Elite) plus a novella (The Prince), and I've been waiting for the third book entitled The One for like, forever.
So when I found out about a new Selection novella entitled The Guard, I just started reading it as soon as I got my hands on a copy just to tide me over while waiting for the third book.
I know there are those who just looooved this book, and I'm sorry to put a damper on things, but I'm one of those who didn't.
I'm Team Maxon, always and forever. And while I like Aspen, that ship has sailed. He had his chance and he blew it. How stupid was that?
Plus, Aspen doesn't really know Prince Maxon. Who does he think he is, going all condescending and judgmental over Maxon? Really. And he claims to love America but is always putting her in danger with their secret meetings.
And America! Oh no, don't get me started on her. I like her (well, I'm more of a Marlee fan, but that's neither here nor there), and I love how she sees Maxon for who he really is and not just because he is their prince, but I hate how she does and says nothing when Aspen badmouths him. Maxon is a good person, and he showed that side of him to America, yet she never defends him whenever Aspen says something negative about Maxon and that just infuriates me.
But anyways, I'm still rooting for Maxon and America. In my opinion, she'll make an amazing princess. And seriously, theirs is a love story that deserves a happy ending.
